Ethan

He's here.
After a long and busy pregnancy, I went into labor on the 19th of September and by the 3am on the 20th,
I had a son.

Sept. 22
My handsome little son
11 pounds 3oz.

Chris took more pictures on his camera, I have been pretty sore and haven't taken as many but here are the best pictures from my camera.

Ethan enjoyed the paci for about a day and then he didn't really seem interested in it, just like his sister lol.
Ethan being strapped into the car seat by daddy wearing the little green hat that I knitted for him.

See the band aid? Ethan had to have some medicine to make sure he didn't have any infections because of his rapid breathing so they gave him a little baby IV, I was so glad when they finally removed it.

On our way out of the hospital,  Chris was in a hurry to get to the car so I got to waddle along behind and take some pictures.
Seats Taken.
No more room in our back seat!

In the elevator going up to our apartment.
We only had one pair of socks and they met with an unfortunate accident, luckily we live on a warm humid island so it didn't really matter.

Took a picture of myself since it was a big day.

Sept 23
A friend of a friend loaned us a pack and play to use until our bassinet arrives.

Sept 24
Hey blue eyes

Ethan is a pretty mellow dude, he likes to watch whats going on and he loves snuggling.

Fever

Alison seems to be feeling fine but last night after dinner when I wiped her face off and was giving her a hug I noticed she was REALLY warm so grabbed the ear thermometer and was shocked to find out that she had a temperature of 102.9!
I sent Chris to get some medicine from the store and I looked up the number for the pediatric on call nurse.
Normally if your child hits a 102 fever you give them medicine and wait an hour to see if the fever comes down before taking them to the ER but since she was so close to 103 I wanted some advice and he recommended giving her the medicine and taking her to the ER just in case the fever went up any more and if it went down while Alison and Chris were there (he recommended that since I am so pregnant I not go) they could just leave. He said the ER was really busy and it would be best to be there already just in case.

Daddy came home and we gave her the medicine and luckily he checked her temperature after he buckled her into her car seat and her temperature was already dropping, whew! So he was able to bring her back upstairs and avoid exposing Ali to the emergency room germs. Today she is hovering around the 99.8 so we are still giving her medicine every 6 hours as a precaution but hopefully she will be at a normal temperature tomorrow. I really hope that the temperature is completely gone by Friday, that's when I am scheduled to be induced into labor. Whew Friday I will be 10 days over due.
Other than fever Alison shows no other signs of being sick, which is really great.

FYI, I just posted a new post for Sept 7th of Alison at a birthday party

Wish us luck as Friday approaches!

Still Pregnant

Talking to Chris
OK not looking my best but here is a picture that another pregnant lady took of me at the hospital during the typhoon. As you can see I'm pretty big at 40 weeks +5 days. I am having trouble sleeping because I am so uncomfortable and I am even more tired in this picture because it was after a restless night in a room with 40 other people on an air mattress that I could barely get out of. Thank goodness the lady who was on the cot next to me was a someone's mom and she frequently helped me up.
I was really hoping that I would go into labor and did A LOT of walking on the 5 stories of ramps inside the hospital, and although I've been having some pretty big contractions nothing substantial and I am only dilated between 2 and 3, which is better than I was with Alison but considering how far along I am not that great. The lady in the background of this picture and I were the farthest along in pregnancy, we have the same due date and we met at the last typhoon. Everyone was waiting for one of us to  go into labor and although we were both having contractions neither of us ever did. She is scheduled to be induced on Tuesday and I am scheduled a few days later on Friday.
Chris is thinking about going ahead and taking off work because I am having a lot of trouble moving around and pregnancy associated pain. These last couple weeks have been pretty hard and I am looking forward to feeling comfortable in my own skin again. My hips have so much pressure on them and have become so sore that its hard for me to lift my legs to do things like get in bed and put on pants.
I'll admit that its getting a bit depressing and Alison has started calling out for daddy since mommy isn't able to help her with most things but she doesn't really seem bothered by that and still wants to snuggle up with me on the couch and be here usual good natured self.
Anyways, thought you all might be interested in seeing a belly picture!
Light at the end of the tunnel, just have to make it to Friday and then push this big guy out!

Birthday Party!

Yea! Today our new couches and big rug were delivered! Under that rug is beige linoleum.
The little love seat got a hole in it, but with the baby and everything else going on Chris didn't think it was a big deal and we decided to just overlook it. It really isn't that noticeable and as long as the kids don't decide it will be fun to pick at shouldn't be a problem.
We also got a lamp that you can see in the corner. We still have the government furniture until they deliver our household goods, they are the blue chairs and couches, not as comfortable but we were thankful to have them.
Alison went to a birthday party today, here she is waiting for someone to help her with her shoes!

These are the birthday girls, the one on the right is names Alison too! the one on the left is Hadley.
Apparently its a common thing to do in out apartment building to have have the kids who have birthdays close together and make one party.

They reserved a table at a local indoor playground and decorated like crazy!
As you can see these are some really creative mamas!

Alison had a good time in the ball pit and daddy cringed thinking about how many germs were in there.
Daddy got to follow Alison around while mommy rested her pregnant self in a chair with some of the other moms.
Alison wasn't interested in the food or the cupcakes but she really enjoyed the juice boxes.

I tried to get a picture of the dad corner. You can see Chris is keeping an eye on Alison who is far right in the picture (almost cut out)
Fancy princess crown shaped sandwiches, rice crispie treat snacks and some other sort of cookie.
It all looked really cute and tasted good too.

Daddy had a really good time playing with Alison, he has really stepped up into being the primary care giver since my mobility with the pregnancy isn't as good as my mobility was when I was pregnant with Alison.

Both girls like the gifts we got them. A Dr. Seuss book, a hair bow and a pair of overalls (one pink one purple) with coordinating shirts.

Chris pointed this out to me. There are a lot of things misspelled around town that give you a good little chuckle. This one says "Don't bring food or beverages into the PRAY area"
(it should say 'play area')

Alison loved the party favors they gave out, a pretty fairy outfit and a poof fairy want. They also gave out a little decorate your own princess crown kit that daddy helped her with when we got home...I'll have to get a picture of it as Alison really likes wearing it and daddy did a good job decorating it.
Overall I think this was the fanciest birthday party we've ever attended and we had a really wonderful time.

Only Child

Alison is enjoying her last days as an only child. Her world is about to be changed by the birth of her very own little brother who I am sure is going to be a source of love and annoyance.
I am really looking forward to seeing how the two interact but for now I am trying to give Alison all the special attention and love she is going to have to share with her sibling.

September 1st
Alison still sleeping and looking so cute mommy had to take a picture.

September 5th
On our way down to the 2nd floor for a play date we ran into daddy at the elevators and sat down in the hallway to read the letter he brought back from the post office just for Alison from Grandma Carolyn and Grandpa Frank!

Alison and daddy showing off her letter

Down on the 2nd floor Alison is trying out a scooter, about 3 minutes after I took this picture she decided that she needed a helmet as well. I love that she likes wearing a helmet.

Daddy and Alison spend some special time together reading before bedtime.

"Hi mommy!"

As for me I had a doctors appointment this week and am 2cm dilated! The doctor said baby Ethan should be coming any time now. I am looking forward to our family having one more little bright eyed face.
Chris got the car seat put together today and our hospital bag is ready to go.
We are not as over prepared as we were with Alison. There isn't much of a baby selection here, well maybe out in town but since neither Chris and I read or speak Japanese its kind of hard to tell what's inside a store your driving by lol. But we have the basics and really that's all you need. Although, I will say sending cute outfits will be very appreciated! The exchange doesn't seem to carry more than baby everyday basics, no cute church/picture clothes. We haven't looked much at the little girls clothes since Alison is on the small side and can still wear a lot of her 24 month/2T clothes. Other parents seem to order a lot of stuff online and I think we will probably do so to some extent as well.
Other than getting prepared for little boy to arrive we are just playing the waiting game! Waiting for me to go into labor. Alison keeps telling us that she wants baby brother to be born, me too!

Our First Month in Okinawa

Hello! I know its been awhile since my last post but hopefully I will be able to make it up to you with this one! It has been one heck of a month! And things are still moving right along and keeping us busy as bees.

Before we moved into our apartment we stayed at the Marine lodge for about two weeks.
During a majority of that time we didn't have a car and our sponsor Kenny toted us around taking us to all the places we needed to go to check in. Did I mention when we got here is was REALLY HOT!!
Oh my, we were all pretty unhappy any time we had to go outside. Now things have cooled off...or we have gotten used to the hotter weather.

Luckily while we were at the Lodge we could walk to the Macaroni Grill situated conveniently next door.
Here are two pics I took from one of our visits.

 July 29th
Our first time venturing away from the base! Chris has been here before and knew about a Mongolian Grill and after a bit of driving around we found it and enjoyed our first meal out in town!
We got our Japanese drivers licenses and driving on the "wrong" wide of the road and car has been an interesting experience although one we are getting used to.

Alison was busy looking at the other people in the restaurant

I took a picture of my first "out in town" meal
You walk to the back of the restaurant and fill your bowl with what you want and then they grill it up for you while you wait.

July 30
Still in the lodge.
Alison is normally pretty good about not spilling things but every now and then...
Alison is frustrated about spilling the cheerios in our tiny hotel room kitchenette so she sits on the box!

July 31
Driving to go pick up our friends Mike and Rhonda to go out and eat at another place Chris knows about.

A picture of Chris driving on the right side of the car.

The restaurant was really good and Chris was able to get some sushi. I had some noodles with chicken and Alison ran around the whole time, thank goodness we went kind of late so there was hardly anyone there.

Our dear friends Mike and Rhonda.
We met them in San Diego and so have known them for several years now.
We were really excited when we found out that they would be joining us on our Okinawan adventure!

Alison looking out the window.

August 1st
Let me tell you a little about how housing works here.
If housing is 95% full you have the option of living off base. We weren't really interested in living off base so the fact that the housing we qualified for was not 95% full didn't bother us in the least. If you decide/have to live on base your given two choices of where to live. I have to say there is something to be said of limited choices. No shopping around for the perfect place or second guessing, one or the other and that's it.
I wish I would have taken a picture of our choices but at this point I am pretty darn pregnant and just getting around is enough to think about lol.
We were given the choice between a multiplex (duplex house thing with about 4 houses in a row) or a 5th floor apartment. the multiplex was two stories and the stairs that went up to the second floor were what put us off. They were very steep and very scary. I looked at them and just envisioned myself and the kids breaking bones falling down them. Luckily the 5th floor apartment is one level and actually pretty nice. When we came to visit we bumped into a mom out with her two kids (we later learned her name is Lauren and she is in the floor above ours) she asked us if we were looking to move in and told us that it was a great place to live especially for people with kids. Well we were sold.
We don't have our home goods shipment yet and won't until late September but luckily the government gives you loaner furniture for as long as you want it. Its not the most comfortable furniture int he entire world but its in good shape and because of it we are out of the lodge and in our apartment.

A big change for Alison was the move to a "Big Girl Bed" Alison got her own twin sized bed, a night stand and a dresser in her room. We went to the exchange (store on base) and bought her some new things for her bed to make it extra special. Nice white sheets, a comfy pillow and a butterfly blanket that is soft and warm.
We might change things up when we get around to decorating her room but for now she seems to really like it and the transition has been a lot smoother than we could have hoped for.

We moved the mattress onto the floor to make it easier for Alison to get in and out of bed and also make it safer in case she rolls off, which she has done a few times.
Our entire apartment has linoleum floors. We are waiting for the Labor Day sales this weekend to buy some rugs, I am really looking forward to getting some rugs! We are also going to try and buy a recliner for the living room so I have a comfortable place to sit and watch Alison play while I rock her new baby brother and I'm sure her too. Alison loves to snuggle and be read to, tickled and just loved on.

Alison had a fussy time with the move. Most of her toys and books are being shipped and we are pretty bare bones around here with what we have. She has asked to go home several times but its starting to die down as we make new friends. Our building really is kid and family friendly and we have made some really wonderful friends already, Alison too!
In fact, had I known I would have brought my camera, the ladies in my building threw me a surprise baby shower! I was so surprised. For most of the people there it was the first time I had met them. I am really glad we decided to live in the apartments, its turning out to be a really great place to call home.

Aug 4
We checked out the only mall in our area, it was really interesting.
The thing we have learned about living in Okinawa is that the shopping is limited and if you go out in town expensive! Still it was fun looking around the mall.

Alison had fun watching some of the Olympics "running girls" with daddy on one of the many TV screens.

The mall is organized more like a flea market. The stores kind of all flow together but they are each separate with their own employees and check out stations. You just don't always realize when you step out of one store and into another lol.

Vending machines! Everywhere there are vending machines with a wide variety of drinks including hot drinks as well!

It tends to rain a 'bit' more here than it did in San Diego, here is Alison with her hair all wet after we rushed (well as much as you can rush with a pregnant lady and a two year old) out to the car.

The street signs, most seem to have English as well as Japanese on them.

Aug 5th
Out for some Sunday brunch with friends!
I snagged this picture of Alison and Daddy

s

Aug 7th
There is a playground outside our apartment building and Alison really likes going there. 4pm seems to be when a lot of the moms take their kids out, its cooler and the kids are post nap and pre-daddy comes home.

Alison is being adventurous and climbing on some steps!

Checking out the ladder
(love this pic!)

Aug 8
You tell that we have a LOT of humidity here from this picture!
I didn't notice that the humidity had fogged up my camera!
Chris has the same problem half the time he goes outside with his glasses lol poor daddy!

Alison and I like to spend a little time outside as much as possible, although since I am getting more uncomfortable in the family way we haven't gone as much as I would like to. Those benches are just not that comfortable.

 Aug 17
Ocean Breeze
we really like going here to eat, its on base and very reasonably priced. We have gone here several times and have not been disappointed yet!

Aug 18
When we go to the exchange on the air force base there is a food court and sometimes, if she has been a very good girl, we will stop and get Alison an ice cream from Baskin Robbins.

 Aug 31st
I know a big dry spell of pictures! but here is one of me about to go out to get a pedicure with some 2 lady friends while the dads watch the kids!

I asked Chris to take a picture of me, this is in our next door neighbors apartment.
Our next door neighbors are wonderful!! They are however moving in October and I am really bummed about that! We have eaten at their place several times and during the day Alison and I will just go over to hand out and play (they have a little boy about a year younger than Ali).
I don't think I can say enough good things about the people in our apartment building. Right from the start they have embraced us and made us feel at home.

In Okinawa its really popular to get "fancy" nail polish done.
And here is what I picked out for my first Okinawan pedicure, which by the way was really wonderful. They gave me a foot and lower leg massage and they gave us tea and we chatted, its been a while since I have gone out for a ladies day like that! I was planning on taking pictures of their nail polish as well but forgot... but just so you know they looked really nice as well :)

Thought I would also share with you some of the little projects I am working on.
I really enjoy making things and I recently learned how to knit!
I am really enjoying it. I knit baby boy a little green hat and am working on a blanket, that might end up two toned since I don't think i bought enough green yarn oops!
I am also working on a little key chain doll from "Molly Makes" a crafting magazine that I really enjoy.

Anyways, things are going well. I am hoping the little boy makes his appearance any time now. Some other time I will have to tell you all about our first two typhoons! But my back is really starting to hurt so it will have to wait.

Warm wishes to you all.
